Friday, the Fourth Week of Lent – Lynn

Broken People

People are broken by nature. It’s through our brokenness that we hurt others, resent the achievements or possessions of our neighbors, or ignore others’ contributions to our own successes. As a nation, we have become a fearful and divided people, quick to judge, slow to listen. The examples of our brokenness are endless, and are as old as time. We all sin, but there is hope.

As people of faith, we can seek and find healing through Christ, the all powerful One who ultimately conquered sin and death, but who first emptied himself out for us, allowing himself to fully experience the brokenness of our humanity and of the world. It is through the God of peace where we find our own peace, where we are empowered to offer peace and healing to others, and where we find the strength to encourage one another and build each other up.

In the words of St. Paul, it is through the Holy Spirit of God where we can:

Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as Christ has forgiven you.  Eph 4:31-32

What a worthy goal to strive for during Lent.

Risen Lord, in your mercy heal us in our brokenness, and bless us with your steadfast and overflowing love, that we may offer the healing power of your Holy Spirit to others. Amen
